I think that the beam rack should hold the weight.
There was an article in “Singletrack” (mountain bike mag) a couple of issues ago about 2 guys who toured round the french alps (following the TDF) using exactly those racks, with tents, sleeping bags, and everything; so unless your laptop is a real whopper, you should be OK.
Looks are a concern, of course.
Nancy,
I'm so happy you liked the book. My sister sent info on it to the Times Leader and they put a blurb in this weekend's edition.
I'm working steadily on the next big one –by big, I mean lengthy– to be placed in the Amazon yearly contest. I haven't settled on a title yet and have much editing to complete before Jan 24, so trying to stay away from the net. I hope your daughter enjoys the read. I'll be more active on the web once I complete my editing. And yes, I am pretty far away from Wilkes-Barre and the General, in both years and distance.

Very interesting to see the differences. I moved to the French Alps to marry my French fiance and I've had the opportunity to discuss the differences in American and French school systems with his teenage kids. It's been an eye opener. I think I would suffocate in this system but I have a great appreciation for the French system where you can go to university virtually free. Cynthia (Alias FranceVideosGal)

rel=”nofollow” absolutely. that’s why I got bored in the ski industry, hate to say. too cyclical.
The mountain towns do have to embrace the car concept, though. If people can take a train to the mountains to then rent a car that will make the concept almost as successful. Some folks are going to still want that – ski luggage doesn't move easy. A great concept and the ski industry and Denver, etc. should embrace it.]]>
