From a “That's horrible!” to a “So what's your point?”, journalists use the human interest factor to keep drawing their audiences. Once the reader experiences some sort of emotional reaction to a piece of news, they will continue to read the piece, since they found some sort of attachment emotionally to the news. Also, in human interest stories, the content is usually about something unusual or out-of-the-ordinary; audiences latch on to stories like those because of its uniqueness and its unusual content. If media printed stories without considering the human interest factor, no one would probably ever read the news.
