In The Forests Of Serre
In The Forests Of Serre

In the tales of World Fantasy Award-winning author Patricia McKillip, nothing is ever as it seems. A mirror is never just a mirror; a forest is never just a forest. Here, it is a place where a witch can hide in her house of bones and a prince can bargain with his heart…where good and evil entwine and wear each others’ faces… and where a bird with feathers of fire can quench the fiercest longing…

Bravo à Bragelonne pour leur nomination au World Fantasy Award!
Faerie Greetings Kauilani!
And welcome to the exciting world of Faerie!
First, while it may be recommended by the author of your faery oracle to do readings outside, it is not necessary. Readings of any divination system can be done wherever you feel comfortable and safe. Divination can be done by tarot cards, oracle cards, scrying, pendulums and many other means. The power of these tools rests in the user, not the tools themselves, so where they are used is a matter for the user to determine. If there isn't a safe place outside for you to read your cards, then the power you bring to the reading is going to be very low because of your anxiety. If there was a safe place outside to read your cards, then you could combine your power with the power of nature and any nature faeries willing to help, and your reading COULD be more powerful, but it's not a guarantee. I do readings sitting on my bed while the TV is on! All it really takes is good concentration.
Second, I'm guessing you read “Kandide and the Secret of the Mists” by Juliet Marilier, which is a very wonderful book. You might also enjoy “Daughter of the Forest” by the same author. “Wildwood Dancing” is her version of the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairytale.
Holly Black's “Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale” is really excellent, followed by her “Valiant: A Modern Tale of Faerie” and last “Ironside: A Modern Faery's Tale”
Another excellent trilogy is “The Faerie Path” by Frewin Jones, which is followed by “The Lost Queen” and “The Sorcerer King”
If you need a real good laugh, I recommend “The Good Fairies of New York” by Martin Miller.
Patricia McKillip beautifully retells the story of Tam Lin in her book, “Winter Rose”
“Fablehaven” by Brandon Mull is delightful.
I adore Herbie Brennan's “Faerie Wars” which he followed with “The Purple Emperor” “Ruler of the Realm” and “Faerie Lord”
I own and have read all of these books and the URLs in parentheses will take you to Amazon.com where you can read a synopsis of each book.
There is much wonderful faerie fiction available, this is just a dip of a toe in the ocean of brilliantly written stories out there. Enjoy!
Faerie blessings,
Kat

Ever try Robin McKinley?Patricia McKillip?Peter Dickinson?Donna Jo Napoli?Shannon Hale? And yeah, on Funke and Meyer (Twilight series is highly addictive, though).Oh, email me! If you don't have my address yet, you should, by now.muskadilloathotmail(what else?)]]>
Hallo! I've not seen X3 yet either and it seems like everyone else went already. If you want, we can see it together some time this week.
Anyway, books…
Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists by Gideon Defoe is every bit as silly as the title implies. And it's only 90 pages or so which makes for a very quick read.
If you're feeling experimental, you might try The Tower at Stony Wood or The Riddle-Master of Hed, both by Patricia McKillip. They're a bit complex, but the stories are excellent.]]>
