Hi, Im planning a trip similar to yours this summer. Just interested to know how much training you guys did and how much you had ridden before (I have cycled for a few years but my mate is pretty new to it although he is a good runner/ rower so has good fitness) and what was your typical mileage each day?
Cheers.
cool trip, enjoyed it
Music is too loud!
@curtisakalefty for this trip we used a Dawes Super Galaxy and a Dawes Audax sport. They both faired well, but the Audax suffered severely on steep hills because of the limited gearing. If you’d like any more info, please ask
more than happy to help!

Good stuff!
Amazing! Great video!!!

fail. Another advertising scam. Would have been better without the intermittent rubbish words.
Epic.. nothing more to say..
Man, this must be one of the most epic cycling videos i’ve seen in youtube.
Great scenery, great roads, great rider.
Overall a pretty damn good video.
@Timothyjazz – It’s a Cannondale Factory Racing thermal jacket (nice and toasty!). The gillet is part of the Cannondale “Good Fight” kit. Ride safe (and warm!)
@cyclefilm Thanks for the reply. But, I meant the vest he was wearing in this film. I know It’s a Good Fight series, but there is NOTHING like this on the internet. Could you please kindly let me know where can I get this beautiful vest. THANK YOU !!
@Timothyjazz The kit list of what Mike is wearing is in the Video description. Expand to view.
Charlie Ahern :
I watch cars parked along the bike lane very carefully and don’t do 25+ mph in the drops.
There's an interesting book called “The Art of Cycling: A Guide to Bicycling in 21st-Century America” by Robert Hurst. It's a great read for the commuter. He talks a little about trying to “read” parked cars and how difficult this is.
Typically, you make the wrong read on a car, the doors pops open, you automatically swerve to avoid and … well… you can imagine!
When I can't pull to the left side of the lane, I slow down to about 5-8mph and do just want you say… try to read the parked car, see if anyone is inside. Hopefully it will continue to work…
On a side note, your experiences as a commuter in California moving to Des Moines sound kind of interesting. Would you be interested in becoming one of our commuters of the month? If you have any interest in telling your story, I'd love to hear it. Send me a line at gervasegallant at domain yahoo.com]]>
