I've tried that little put-in off Woolridge twice recently and have been very lucky to find enough room to park my pickup and launch a canoe or kayak. Even on weekdays. If you've got a boat that needs a trailer, you'd better be very adept at backing it up. The GRSC sail club is quite elitist and for competitive catamaran regattas only. Or, if you're a millionairre who owns waterfront property, you're in. Otherwise, avoid weekends altogether and get there at the crack of dawn on a weekday to launch at the tiny 2X4 mudflat available. BTW, love the comment about the fat redneck chicks with 10 babies splashing in the mud. So true.

preesi- Of course it's possible for water taxi accidents to happen, but the fact of the matter is that they ARE very safe. Like Eesie pointed out, the ride only takes a few minutes.

All of that said, there is a very good chance that there either were no lifejackets on board, or that they are kept in a compartment on board the water taxi in case of emergencies. I myself took a water taxi ride in Chicago once, and nobody on that water taxi was wearing life jackets either. There were, however, life jackets stored on the taxi, just in case.]]>

Another effect of the board breakup has been to grant more direct control over the organization to Mr. Kennedy. And though Mr. Kennedy draws praise from many in the environmental community, some of his opponents said he could be too aggressive and even reckless at times.

''I think he separates himself from good science at times in order to aggressively pursue an issue and win,'' said George Rodenhausen, who worked as legal counsel to Putnam County during the negotiations on the Watershed Memorandum of Agreement.

''He had a nasty tendency to deride or insult anybody he thought was not on his side,'' recalled Jim Gordon, a former Putnam County legislator who worked with Mr. Rodenhausen as the county's negotiator.

Seems to back up what you said. I have always been a fan of the Kennedys and RFK Jr, but will admit I don't know much about his past. I also didnt know he was busted for heroin and was addicted to the stuff for many years?

Considering all that, and now this, its likely Kennedy's nomination will not get thru the Senate. If it even gets that far.]]>

As the old proverb put it, “It's all in how you look at things.” Your parents should have used some modern marketing savvy to convince you that life jackets are actually fashion accessories that have a useful secondary function as flotation devices. Of course it would help in convincing an eight-year-old if they'd purchased life jackets with a cartoon motif.
