one women (in a fairly new relationship) was told that when HE calls, she should only occasionally answer her phone.

Sounds like advice given from someone who hasn't had a good relationship.

I have a very simple qualifier before taking anyone's advice: Did he or she actually succeed in what I'm trying to do?

I don't take dieting advice from fat people, financial advice from people who aren't significantly richer than me, or relationship advice from people who don't have the kind of relationship I want.]]>

Tanna DeBei Eliyahu Raba, Chapter 1, Paragraph 5:

The Holy One Blessed Be He gave Yom Kippur with great love and with joy.

Pirkei DeRabbi Eliezer, chapter 45:

Rabbi Zechariah taught:
Read the Torah and see what is written in it:

You must afflict your souls and cause a shofar to pass through the camp, and declare a fast for all Israel, from the smallest to the greatest, because if not for Yom Kippur, the world would not be able to endure, because Yom Kippur atones for all sins, both great and small.

Midrash Tehillim for Psalm 27

Our Rabbis interpreted this Bible verse (Tehillim / Psalms, chapter 27, verse 1):
[G_d is] MY LIGHT on Rosh Hashanah and MY SALVATION on Yom Kippur.
