Historic Grant Park Welcomes City’s Top Chefs

WHAT It has been hard waiting all year, but Corks & Forks, presented by Lincoln, is almost here and once again welcomes some of Atlanta’s best chefs to share their favorite dishes. Held during the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival, Corks & Forks is an afternoon of delicious fare paired with an enticing selection of wines and beers. Corks & Forks has plenty to teach, too, during educational wine classes and cooking demonstrations from Viking on topics like gluten-free gourmet meals, pickling and party foods.

Always bringing an exciting array of chefs on board, some of the 2011 Corks & Forks participating restaurants include:

Abattoir, Atkins Park, Bhojanic, Cake Hag, Canoe, The Graveyard, Legal Sea Foods, Market, The Melting Pot, Murphy’s, PEASANT bistro, Rosebud, Seasons 52, Spice Market, Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint, The Sun Dial and others to be announced soon!

WHO The Grant Park Summer Shade Festival supports the work of the Grant Park Conservancy. Saturday morning welcomes the Adams Realtors 5K Run for the Park. The Grant Park Farmers Market is held every Sunday, including during the Summer Shade Festival, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Grant Park – the city’s oldest public park – was initially established by a gift of 100 acres from the estate of railroad magnate Lemuel Pratt Grant in 1883. Grant Park was once referred to as a resort area due to its natural flowing springs, carriage trails, shaded walking paths and big, beautiful trees. Today, Grant Park welcomes more than 2 million visitors each year who still enjoy it as a place of respite in a now busy city.

The Grant Park Conservancy is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation, restoration and maintenance of historic L.P. Grant Park. www.gpconservancy.org

BUT…IMO – This should be done on a Saturday not on the Farmers Market day.The vendors are traveling here, paying the $4+ for gas AND paying a fee for their spots at the Farmers Market. The bake sale had none of those expenses and was competition to the venders. The Farmers Market is very important to the community and we are struggling to keep good venders showing up, let's raise money for causes on days where it won't hurt the vendors.*Oops, did it again had to delete the post above due to a typo.]]>

Farmers market in our area in Ohio, carries the produce from California. That's the 'fresh produce' we get here in Boardman, Ohio, still we go every Sunday morning. Compare to the produce they sell here in groceries, the stuff in farmers market is 100% better.]]>

The Holistic mom's thing sounds awesome! I do think a network would help me with my latest dilema, finding a pediatrician that is supportive of our natural ways. On another note, I wanted to invite you to join me in Thankful Thursdays if you are interested. It's just something I am trying to start to help myself and others remember what is really important in life. You can chek it out if you want, I explain it on my blog. Have a great day!Julie -Raising Contentment, Gluten-Free Gourmet]]>
